Simply put, a residential Care home is a facility providing housing and care to a specific type of resident. Seniors, mental health patients, recovery/rehabilitation, and homeless people are some of the main examples. Residents are supervised 24 hours a day and 3 meals are provided along with other services.
All Retirement Homes in Ontario are regulated and licensed by the Retirement Home Regulatory Authority (RHRA). The level of services and amenities provided to the residents vary by each home. Retirement Homes can range in size from smaller operations (less than 10 beds) to larger homes (100 beds+).
Community Homes for Opportunity (CHO) is a supportive housing program for people with mental health disorders. They are funded and administered by various health organizations and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term care. Support workers are assigned by the health organizations working in conjunction with the home owner to provide additional support to the residents.
CHPI homes are also funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term care to provide housing and support to the homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These homes fall under the program called Housing With Support.
